About me:
My name is A.J. Taylor. I've been playing guitar since I was six years old. I took lessons for the first few years, and have been self taught since I was eleven. I've played every genre in every setting imaginable. From church bands, to touring metal bands, to bluegrass jams with the old timers, I've done it all. My goal now is to help others experience what music has to offer. Through practice and technique I'm fully confident that I can help others achieve the same amount of joy and accomplishment out of playing guitar that I have. For many people music is the only constant in their lives, and it's remarkable to attain the ability to create music on your own. I desire for every student of mine to fulfill their musical dreams and do far greater things than I ever could.
Experience:
At twelve years old I joined my first youth band rotating between acoustic guitar and bass and began to understand on a small scale what it was like to have music chemistry with other people and play to an audience of 30-50 on a consistent basis. Less than a year later I was also playing on Sunday mornings for a crowd of 300-400 people. That year I also started my own band with a few friends and we began playing in basements and coffee shops or small venues. That summer I attended a Jazz camp that really challenged my music theory and music reading skills. Starting then I became obsessed with wanting to know everything about theory, particularly jazz theory, that I could. The following year my band grew to playing 4-5 shows every month, and I started taking classical guitar lessons. The band continued to grow, go on tour, play summer festivals, and eventually we all went our separate ways and I joined a new band. With this band I have already done a full US tour, and will be touring Europe and Asia later this year. Over the years my writing style has continuously developed into more than just chords and riffs. Every note I played became connected to what I felt inside of me. To me this was my greatest musical accomplishment; more than touring, more than festivals, more than anything else, to play something that moved on my own heart. That is my greatest dream for every student.
